High School

Welcome to Winneconne High School, where we are “learning today and leading tomorrow”. Another exciting and challenging school year is just around the corner! I look forward to working together with our students, our families, and our staff as high school principal. This school year marks my ninth year with the Winneconne Community School District and my third year as Winneconne High School Principal. I previously served as a Communication Arts teacher, as student council advisor, and as the Dean of Students. Prior to joining the Winneconne family, I taught English and business education courses at Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah High School.

We are excited to be in the planning stages of our new additions and renovations to the high school building, made possible through the referendum passed by our community last spring. We will see a brand new auditorium and a new metal shop, as well as renovations to our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) classrooms. It is a very exciting time to be a Wolf!

Here in Winneconne, our high school serves nearly 500 students in grades 9-12. We are proud to be able to offer something for every student who walks through our doors. Our comprehensive curricular offerings are paired with a plethora of technology components aiming to provide students with the learning experiences they will need to be prepared for whatever avenue they choose to pursue after high school. Please feel free to read more about our course offerings and programming in our course description book, located on the high school counseling and career center website.

As we continue our journey toward Target-Based Grading and Reporting, we will continue to house Focus Time within our daily schedule and will once again be using the 12 point grading scale for all (non-CAPP) high school classes.

  • Focus Time is a 30-minute block built into our daily schedule, providing a variety of learning experiences, ranging from general homework help, reteaching, one-on-one tutoring, and study skills, to enrichment activities like book club, coding club, and small group discussions. Focus Time allows our students the opportunity to enhance their own individual learning by identifying for themselves areas of need and/or interest and then scheduling themselves accordingly, encouraging all students to be accountable and responsible for their own continual growth.
  • The 12 point grading scale balances out a traditionally “F” heavy grading scale (60 percentage points in the F-range; 10 percentage points in each of the four others) by ensuring that the increment between each grade mark is the same: in this case, one point. Students will still earn letter grades as the final grade for the course.
  • NEW THIS YEAR: Historically, students have also earned a “conduct” grade for each of their courses, in addition to their academic grade. Because we believe that students’ habits and behaviors are crucial to their overall development, for the 2016-17 school year, we have further developed this conduct grade to more fully encompass the habits and behaviors that are critical for student success. *This will be reported separately and NOT as a part of the academic grade. We will report on our expectations that students Practice Kindness, Always Show Respect, and Work to do Their Best (PAW). Please see the link on the district home page for more information: “WCSD Implements Target-Based Grading & Reporting”.

Our high school staff is comprised of highly-qualified, experienced, and caring people who are committed to success for all students. This commitment is demonstrated daily as we strive to help our students grow, not only academically, but as respectful, contributing members of society as well.

At WHS, we also offer a wide variety of athletic and other co-curricular activities that enhance the high school experience. Our goal at Winneconne High School is to provide students with a high-quality, individualized educational experience in a climate that is safe, respectful, and positive for everyone.

We encourage you to visit us and see what Winneconne High School has to offer! We also encourage you to be part of the educational process at our school through the opportunities that are provided for parents, families, and community members. By working together with parents and the community, we recognize that we truly can do exceptional things for our children. Please join us.
