National Honor Society

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY OATH
I pledge myself to uphold the high purposes
Of the National Honor Society to which I have been selected.
I will be true to the principles for which it stands;
I will be loyal to my school, and will maintain and encourage
High standards of Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character.

Winneconne High School offers the opportunity to become a member of the National Honor Society to students who meet the requirements set by NHS and the WHS chapter bylaws. Applications are available by clicking on the appropriate link below and are due to HS-D104 by March 1 at 3:30 p.m. The induction ceremony is the first Wednesday in May at 6:00 in the high school commons. Eligibility for application includes a cumulative GPA of 3.5; 36 hours of community service for sophomores, 54 for juniors and 72 for seniors; recommendations from teachers and coaches; participation and attendance at meetings and NHS projects.

From the NHS website:  www.nhs.us :

Membership
NHS is more than just an honor roll. The Honor Society chapter establishes rules for membership that are based upon a student’s outstanding performance in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These criteria for selection form the foundation upon which the organization and its activities are built.

Scholarship: Students who have a cumulative grade point average of 85 percent, B, 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or equivalent standard of excellence, or a higher cumulative average set by the local school's Faculty Council (**at WHS the academic requirement is a cumulative average of 3.5), meet the scholarship requirement for membership. These students are then eligible for consideration on the basis of service, leadership, and character.

Service: This quality is defined through the voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation and with a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit.

Leadership: Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters of school activities, idea contributors, dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.

Character: The student of good character upholds principles of morality and ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others, and generally maintains a good and clean lifestyle.
